چکیده

Effect of drought on apoplastic protein content, protein pattern, enzymic activiteis and minieral concentration of Vicia faba cv Giza 40 (relatively drought-tolerant) and Vicia faba cv Giza 667 (relatively drought-sensitive) was studied. While drought decreased Na, K, Ca concentration in leaf apoplast of Giza 40, it increased Na and Ca concentraion in case of Giza 667. Giza 40 has K:Na ratio higher than that of cv Giza 667 under drought condition. The protein content of intercellular wasing fluid (IWF) increased in cv Giza 40 and decreased in cv Giza 667 when subjected to drought. The elevated protein content in cv Giza 40 was the result of de novo synthesis of 13 specific polypeptides with apparent molecular mass range of 0.54 84.61 kDa. The declined protein content was associated with 10 newly synthesied polypeptides with molecular mass of 0.54 169.87 kDa. The changes in protein content were accompanied by a specific alterations in the activities of apoplastic enzymes in the cultivars. In general, the activities of apoplastic peroxidase and hydrolases were higher in Giza 40 than that of Giza 667 under either conditions. The results indicated that the changes in leaf apoplast in response to drought are cultivar specific.

Electrophoretic Pattern and Antibacterial Activity of Proteins from Vicia Faba Seed Extract

ABSTRACT Background Antibiotic resistance makes antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) agents an alternative for treatment of pathogenic diseases. They are isolated from various animals invertebrates, vertebrates and plants. The present study shows the electrophoretic pattern of protein and peptides from Vicia Faba seed and reports our first attempt to study the antibacterial activity of Vicia faba...

Peroxidase and Polyphenol Oxidase Activity in Moderate Resistant and Susceptible Vicia faba Induced by Aphis craccivora (Hemiptera: Aphididae) Infestation

Two faba bean, Vicia faba L., cultivars, Gazira2 and Misr1, representing cultivars moderately resistant and susceptible to aphids, were analyzed for peroxidase (POD) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities induced by cowpea aphid, Aphis craccivora Koch. infestation. Two tissue types (whole plant [WP] and detached leaf [DL]), two infestation status (infested and uninfested), and three aphid infe...

Effect of salinity stress on Vicia faba productivity with respect to ascorbic acid treatment. Awatif Ali Mohsen, Mohsen Kamal Hassan Ebrahim and Wael Fathy Saad Ghoraba*

A field experiment was carried out to study the response of presoaked faba bean seeds (Vicia faba cv. Misr 2) in freshly prepared ascorbic acid (50 ppm) or distilled water (control) for 4 hrs at natural environmental conditions, to salinity stress. NaCl treatments caused a reduction in all productivity and yield parameters as compared with control, particularly at high NaCl level (150 mM), wher...

Phenolic Composition and Antioxidant Activity of Raw Seeds, Green Seeds and Sprouts of Ten Faba Bean (vicia Faba) Cultivars Consumed in Egypt

Faba beans are widely consumed in Egypt as a vegetable by many ways. A study was conducted to determine the levels of phenolic compounds and antioxidant properties of raw seeds, green seeds and sprouts of ten faba bean cultivars commonly consumed in Egypt. Nubaria 2, Sakha 2 and Nubaria 1 cultivars showed higher amounts of phenolic compounds and exhibited the highest antioxidant activities (DPP...

Comparative Analysis of Defense Responses in Chocolate Spot-Resistant and -Susceptible Faba Bean (Vicia faba) Cultivars Following Infection by the Necrotrophic Fungus Botrytis fabae

In this study, resistance responses were investigated during the interaction of Botrytis fabae with two faba bean cultivars expressing different levels of resistance against this pathogen, Nubaria (resistant) and Giza 40 (susceptible). Disease severity was assessed on leaves using a rating scale from 1 to 9. Accumulation levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), lipid peroxidation and antioxidan...
